CPH:DOX 2025 - The Ground Beneath Our Feet / Jörðin undir fótum okkar

Længde: 86 min.

You are left with a genuine, deep sense of gratitude for life and love throughout this beautiful Icelandic film set in a Reykjavík retirement home. That it's also quietly poignant and has a lovely, low-key humor doesn't hurt either. As filmmaker Yrsa Roca Fannberg says to one of the elderly residents early on: 'This is a film about life'.

Her analog film images cast a warm and timeless glow over the aging bodies. This is a film where a closeup of a hand becomes a landscape, and where a loving touch testifies to the deep love between two people who have shared a long and rich life.

'The Ground Beneath Our Feet' is deeply rooted in the world, but has a poetic eye for the small mysteries and miracles of everyday life. The seasons change and the long days of summer alternate with the long nights of winter. An existential and artistically magnificent film with a warm heart.
