Fanny Howe (b. 1940) is celebrated for her poetry and prose, while her films are mostly unknown and unseen. In unexpected ways, her filmic practice extends, illuminates, and crystallizes her poetics, her politics, her attentions and beliefs, and the philosophical lucidity of her thought. Rather than considering the films as a departure from her poetry, her novels, and her essays, one can see them as a companion and as further evidence of how she makes genres irrelevant. If we imagine genre as a territory, Fanny Howe is the trespass figure at its margins. Two books by Fanny Howe published by Divided Publishing will be sold at a special price after the screening.
